Chi Theta Omega

In June 2001, Frederick area Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority women decided to pursue chartering a chapter in Frederick, Maryland and the “Clustered Pearls” interest group was formed. On May 17, 2003, Chi Theta Omega Chapter was chartered in Frederick, becoming the first African-American sorority to be established in the Frederick community.

We have sponsored a Teen group (T-AKA), tutored elementary school students at 2 of the lower achieving schools and sponsored etiquette classes for teens. We have served others with Thanksgiving food donations, adoption of families in need, visits to nursing facilities for games and “beauty days” and helped with SHARE distribution to families in need. Chi Theta Omega has participated in the Montgomery County Women’s Legislative briefing and recently co-sponsored a Political Forum in Frederick. We have sponsored cancer and mental health forums, financial literacy workshops and joined other chapters in the Maryland Race for the Cure of Breast Cancer, as well as America’s Walk for Diabetes. Our chapter has sponsored Coat Drives, donated games to the City’s Youth Center and donated hats, gloves and scarves to an elementary school for students in need. We sponsor an annual “Women of Excellence” program to recognize outstanding women in the community and have initiated a “Men on the Move” calendar to highlight outstanding community men. We are currently working to co-sponsor a Domestic Violence Seminar, another etiquette workshop, a girl’s mentoring program at Tuscarora High School with various women’s organizations in Frederick County.
